Day two of the Chain Reaction Challenge was set to be a challenging one, with the peloton riding through Springbrook National Park, the Numinbah Valley, and along the coast via Currumbin.
The peloton was a buzz, with discussions still ongoing on who had won the previous day’s team pursuit challenge, and some of the riders getting on and off their bikes a little more gingerly than day one.
After filling up with electrolytes, gels, and energy bars, the peloton set out at 7am for an epic day of riding through one of Queensland’s most scenic areas.
The scenery throughout the rainforest was Instagram worthy, and the camaraderie among the riders and the support crew made the experience even more special.
Facing a sudden downpour at Tomewin tested the nerves and determination of the bunch, but overcoming such obstacles together, is what makes these challenges so memorable and impactful.
The peloton made it through the winding descends in the (very) wet, without major incident, and arrived safely in Currumbin.
After a hearty lunch at the Viking’s SLSC (and the donning of many a winter/rain jacket) the team set off to the GC via Pacific Parade, where the art of clipping into- and out of pedals was mastered over the next 25km.
Raising over $1.3 million to date, in this edition of the Melbourne Challenge is a fantastic achievement, and it's heart-warming to see the team's dedication to fulfilling their commitment to donors and the supported charities.
Here's to a successful Day 3!
