A Journey of Endurance and Scenic Beauty
The Chain Reaction Challenge 2025 has been an exhilarating journey of endurance, camaraderie, and breathtaking landscapes. On Day 7, participants found themselves at the stunning Lake Taupo, a jewel nestled in the heart of New Zealand's North Island. This day promised not only to be a test of physical and mental fortitude, after over 840kms and 6 days in the saddle, but also an appreciation of the natural splendor of this beautiful region.
Today's route was a circular loop, encompassing approximately 160kms and over 1,900kms of elevation gain. The journey around Lake Taupo is a true test of endurance and a feast for the senses, as well as a defining moment in the impact these riders will have in helping children in need.
Riders gathered at the crack of dawn with the riders and the supporter crew buoyed by the spirit of the Challenge. Throughout the day, the cyclists faced a series of rolling hills that tested their stamina and resolve. The climbs were rewarded with sweeping views of the lake and the surrounding landscape. The riders had to dig deep, pacing themselves to conserve energy for the demanding inclines and to reach the finish line.
The final stretch of the journey led participants back towards Taupo town, completing the full loop around the lake. As the riders neared the finish line, they were welcomed by the town's iconic landmarks, including the Tongariro Domain and the lively lakefront - a fitting end to a remarkable challenge that pushed everyone to their limits. Raising over $1.2 million for children stands as a testament to their resilience and dedication.
Day 7 of the Chain Reaction Challenge 2025 at Lake Taupo is a testament to the spirit of adventure and the power of perseverance. As cyclists complete this leg of the journey, they carry with them the memories of the day and the week’s challenges.
