Taking on “The Rip” in winter is a significant challenge. It is a non-wetsuit swim at temperatures 12 degrees and below and as such It offers the chance to gain some real satisfaction by doing something that very few people have ever done.
But why brave the chill? For us, it's a chance to make waves for a greater cause. Join us as we navigate this icy expanse, not just for personal triumph, but to raise vital funds for the children in need at Monash Children’s Hospital. It's more than a swim; it's a testament to the power of community and compassion.
As we push our limits, let's remember that this small challenge pales in comparison to the battles fought by sick children every day.
Monash Children’s Hospital is one of the busiest paediatric healthcare services in Australia who care for more than 100,000 children every year.
They are one of only two major tertiary children’s healthcare services in Victoria. They care for children and young people at their main site co-located with Monash Medical Centre in Clayton, with satellite services at Casey Hospital and Dandenong Hospital. They provide leading pediatric services in Rehabilitation, Oncology, Pediatric Intensive Care and Palliative Care.
Monash Children’s Hospital teams deliver specialised, innovative and family-centred care. They are committed to ensuring that every patient, and their family, feels wholly supported while with them.
Monash Newborn is the busiest Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Special Care Nursery in Victoria. They provide care to over 2,000 of Victoria’s most vulnerable patients every year.
"The Rip" presents a thrilling challenge—a 3.5km swim across the entrance to Port Phillip Bay, the gateway to Melbourne, Australia. With a rich historical significance, it stands as one of the most notorious and exhilarating waterways globally. The winter crossing, in particular, holds special significance as participants must complete it without a wetsuit, paying homage to the original crossing by Douglas Mew in 1971.
