Inside the Peloton Brisbane 2024 Day 5

20 Mar 2024

Day 5 started a little cooler and later than previous days, a price to paid later on.

We were fortunate to begin our day's journey with a heartfelt send-off from Quenten, a Ngadjuri elder. His words invoked safety on our passage, signaling to the spirits our respectful traverse through their land and seeking their protection throughout our travels.

At 10k in we visited Rockford estates, a Barossa great. Timing was excellent with the current harvest in the tubs having been pressed and juices being extracted: a metaphor what was to come for the riders later in the day.

An auction led by young Ned Hackett, demonstrating his fathers prowess, raised $5000 for the cause: thank-you to the generosity of Rockford estate.

From there it was a straightforward trot through the Barossa vineyards prior to a wind challenged descent into the desert: tumbleweeds, varied roadkill, and road trains.

The 10k time trial witnessed spirited competition among teams Charter Hall, Limitless, and Common Good, with Charter Hall emerging victorious. Team Icon, represented by a Scotsman and a courageous female solo rider, clinched the diversity award convincingly.

Afterward, it became a challenging slog against the wind, testing even the seasoned Chain Reaction veterans, before a late lunch and the final 25k of rolling hills affected by the wind leading into Lyndoch.

Tomorrow, we face more uphill battles against the wind as we head back to Adelaide
